Square Enix Set to Bring Classic RPG Chrono Trigger to Android

The Tokyo Game Show is going on and while we didn’t expect much coming out of Android, Square Enix had a few biggies to drop. They’ve revealed they’ll be bringing classic Super Nintendo RPG Chrono Trigger (one of my personal favorites) to Android. We’re also getting Dragon Quest Monsters and Ithadaki Street, likened to Pokemon and Monopoly.
We hope these will make their way out of Japan, but they didn’t give any insight into where these would be released. They simultaneously announced their own marketplace for Android but it looks like that one won’t make it too far out of the east. Fingers crossed that Square Enix localizes these titles for the rest of the world. But I’ll just go back to playing it on my PSP if they don’t. [via Droid Gamers]

LG U+ LTE Revealed – 1.5GHz Dual-core, 75Mbs and 720p HD Display

Looks like LG isn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. The South Korean manufacturer recently put up an extremely impressive flash site for their upcoming LG U+ LTE. So, just what is this LG U+? Well, the model number for the device could be the LG-LU6200 and if you want to do some serious speculating, judging from that leaked Verizon roadmap we saw a few weeks ago, could also be the Revolution 2 dropping on October 20th.

As far as specs go, the LG U+ LTE will feature a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, support for LTE up to 75Mbps and a 4.5-inch “True HD” 720p AHIPS display of which recently won an award for outclassing Samsung’s Galaxy S II AMOLED unit. The device will also come equipped with an 8MP camera, 1.3MP front facing webcam, 1GB of RAM and a super slick profile coming in at only 10.5mm thick. As it stands, the LG U+ LTE will be announced next week on the 26th and launch exclusively in South Korea (just like the Galaxy S II) but I imagine it wont be long before we see a global release. It’s going to be an interesting holiday season for Android…

President Obama Brings Major Patent Reform With the Signing Of America Invents Act

President Obama has just signed into law the America Invents Act. This is the biggest step in patent reform the US Patent and Trademark Office has seen in over 60 years. The newly signed law will give the UPTO the funding and manpower they need to not only help companies and inventors avoid delays but also avoid the unnecessary litigation we’ve been seeing as of late. The law wont go into effect over night. It will take another 18 months for everything to get settled in which time Apple will continue using all their manpower to sue the pants off of Android OEM’s. Here’s a snippet of the “press release” from The White House Blog:
The newly-signed law has a number of important transformations that will build on reforms already underway under the leadership of the US Patent and Trademark Office’s dynamic Director David Kappos. The law will give the USPTO the resources to significantly reduce patent application waiting times, building on the great strides the patent office has already made, including reducing its backlog by 75,000 during this Administration even as the number of filings per year has increased.
Excessive litigation has long plagued the patent system.  The America Invents Actwill offer entrepreneurs new ways to avoid litigation regarding patent validity, without the expense of  going to court, and will also give the USPTO new tools and resources to improve patent quality. The new law also will harmonize the American patent process with the rest of the world to make it more efficient and predictable, and make it easier for entrepreneurs to simultaneously market products in the United States and for exporting abroad.

iPhone 5 Will Arrive On October 15th

France Telecom’s CEO Stephane Richard says new iPhone’s launch date is October 15 and it certainly sounds like he’s also interpreting certain rumors that are currently flying around. Orange is directly interested in selling the iPhone 5, we can also assume he’s not just referring to current rumors and it’s also very likely that the CEO of a gigantic communications company that will be carrying the device has some knowledge of the release date……………

Stéphane Richard, Chief of Orange was heard on the radio as stating, “If I believe what we heard, the iPhone will be released Oct. 15,” before backtracking somewhat by adding,‘To date, no date is known for its commercial launch even though its production seems to have started in several echoes in the press.” It could just be that he’s an avid RedmondPie reader and has been keeping tabs on the extensive array of leads we’ve been tracking. Somehow though, that doesn’t seem likely. Stéphane’s more in the know than Joe Average and he would have been briefed at this late stage of the release date rather than relying on Chinese Whispers. It’s just not feasible that the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company would be left in the dark of the projected release date of a product about to be added to its roster. With 150,000 iPhone 5 units reportedly being pumped out daily over at Foxconn, it seems only a matter of time before we get a leak of the device, which whilst isn’t as exciting as the actual release, is the next best thing. October 15th falls on a Saturday, which would be an unusual launch date for Apple, which prefers to launch its new iPhone models on Thursdays or Fridays and some have suggested Friday, October 14th as the most likely date for a debut, although others have claimed that Apple could roll out the new hardware a week earlier on the 7th.

Samsung Galaxy S II Makes its U.S. Debut on Alaska’s GCI, Priced at $100

Sorry, Sprint, but you were a bit too slow. Alaska’s regional GCI has beaten the nationwide carrier to market as the first U.S. carrier to offer a subsidized Samsung Galaxy S II. Those citizens residing in the colder of the two non-contiguous United States have the pleasure of heading out and picking up what looks to be an unadulterated version of the Galaxy S II for a mere $99.99 on contract. The GSII operates on GCI’s “4G” HSPA+ network and features a dual-core CPU, Super AMOLED Plus display, and more. We suppose with an asterisk Sprint can still be the first carrier to release the Galaxy S II in the continental US, right?

Sharp Announces Another 3D Aquos Phone, Headed for SoftBank Japan

While 3D-enabled smartphones are altogether new to the US, the concept is old hat in Japan, as is often the case with technology. Sharp introduced their glasses-free 3D Lynx handsets last fall, and has since brought the Aquos SH-12C with a screen and dual-camera setup capable of taking your mobile experience into the third dimension. Now yet another handset is on the way, the Sharp Aquos SH8298U for Japan’s SoftBank.
The new Aquos phone features a 1,4GHz Snapdragon CPU with Adreno 205 graphics, 512MB of RAM, and a 4.2-inch qHD display with glasses-free 3D capabilities. Dual 8MP rear cameras enable the capture of 3D content. The phone will run on Android 2.3 and come in red and white decos.
We’re still waiting for Sharp to bring any of its high-end Android devices to the US market. They would offer an interesting change of pace to the current lineup of big-name brands and their almost monthly releases.

More alleged iPhone 5 cases show flat back, curved edges

iPhone 5 mockup

Yet another Asian company is claiming to have iPhone 5 cases for sale. Shenzhen L&Y Technology, based in Guangdong province, is selling cases with multiple designs and colors. The accessories are consistent with other cases, which all imply that the next-generation iPhone will have a flat back with tapered edges, mimicking the aesthetics of the iPad 2 and fourth-generation iPod touch.

The cases also suggest that Apple is returning to elongated volume buttons, instead of the iPhone 4's circular ones. A space for a headphone jack remains at the top, as is usual. A cut-out for a mute switch is located near the hole for a rear-facing camera; as with other iPhone 5 cases, the camera hole is wider than what is normally seen on gear for the iPhone 4.

The flurry of iPhone 5 cases in recent weeks may reinforce the idea that the new device is due shortly. It also suggests, however, that security problems at Foxconn have gone unresolved. One or more workers at Foxconn may have sold iPhone 5 specifications to Chinese accessory makers hoping to get a headstart on production.

Motorola Bringing “Facebook Phone”?

Facebook’s draw seems to have gotten the best of Motorola as they, too, seem to be set to announce a “Facebook phone” of their own. Preliminary confirmation of such a phone popped up at the Bluetooth SIG. Like HTC’s Status/ChaCha, the Motorola EX-225 (it’s model number until we can get a name to attach to it) will have a fully-exposed QWERTY keyboard in portrait mode with a blue Facebook button sitting beneath it.
With that, Facebook integration is expected to be a major focus. While we’re not sure how Motorola will go about transforming MOTOBLUR for this purpose, we should note that HTC’s implementation wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.
In our review of the HTC Status we criticized HTC for providing little incentive to use their Facebook services opposed to the official option you can find on the Android market. At the end of the day, we deemed it a nice phone for those who want a portrait QWERTY device.
While HTC’s disappointing offering (which is said to be doing pretty poor at retail) will have no bearing on Motorola’s, we won’t hold our breath for the Facebook phone that many-a Facebook fanatic have been waiting for. [via Electronista]
